VOYEUR OF NONSENSE
Back in 2015 I started to organize my creative direction after being told my work wasn’t “cohesive as a body of work”. My response was to restrict my work to comic book backing boards with minimal colors and focus on stream of consciousness.
Before I ended up titling this direction MIND MATTER, it was simply mind mapping. My drawings were simultaneously sketches, journals, and intrusive thoughts all creating these rectangular amalgamations. I was playing with my identity in relation to internet culture cause It’s where I felt most at home. This to me was the beginning of an ongoing surrender to my creativity. Between all the chaos of growing up, the years of art history I was consuming, the memes that rotted my mind, and the searching I was doing through altered states of consciousness - I was in the realm of nonsense.
Fast forward a decade later and I’m so happy what this language has become for me. Keep talking to your art. Believe in yourself no matter how nonsensical it feels at times. Your voice is wrapped up in thousands of years of human consciousness. You just have to keep digging and unearth what feels right for you.
Keep drawing. Keep writing. Keep exploring. Keep living.
