I recently spent an evening with a traditional Georgian family, and it completely redefined how I understand hospitality 🇬🇪✨
Everything you’ve heard about Georgians welcoming strangers isn’t an exaggeration. The moment I walked through the door, I was treated like a VIP.
Here are a few moments that stuck with me:
1. The Supra (Feast) 🍷🍽️
The table was literally overflowing. Cooking a spread like that would take me two solid days, but to them, this is just Tuesday. They genuinely love good food, gathering people, and celebrating life over dinner almost every single day.
2. The Wine 🍇
They grow their own grapes and make their own wine. I’m usually pretty sensitive to alcohol, but I woke up feeling completely refreshed. Pure, organic, homemade fermentation with zero additives makes all the difference!
3. The Definition of "Family" 🫂
In Georgia, the family circle expands to include everyone. Over the course of the evening, neighbors and friends just walked in unannounced. No formal invites needed — doors are permanently open. I met more than 20 people in a matter of hours!
4. The Next-Level Care 😅📦
When it got late, they flat-out refused to let me travel back at night and insisted I sleep over. The next morning, before driving me home, they packed half their fridge for me to take. You simply do not leave a Georgian household empty-handed (and they already made me promise to return for mandarin season 🍊).
5. The Location 🏔️🌊
A countryside home tucked into the mountains, with a clear view of the sea in the distance. The mountain air is so crisp that a week out there feels like it could recharge your lungs for an entire year in the city.
I’m still processing the whole experience. Coming from Ukraine, I’m no stranger to warmth, but the effortless, unconditional generosity Georgians offer to literally anyone who walks in is rare.
It’s a powerful reminder of how rewarding it is to move through the world with an open door and an open heart ❤️
